Kampala School of Excellence Ministries on January 16th and 20th 2010 held a soccer gala for children. The Gala was targeted to coincide with the start of the new school term. Over 500 children and youths participated in this event with a total of 89 goals scored.
Over 30 teams participated in the tournament which drew teams from around Kampala City area. The 11-aside games were played on a divided field for two days. The participants were of two categories ie the Under 13 and the Under 17.
Despite heavy rains that sogged the dusty field on the first day of the tournament, there was alot of excitement as players from different teams competed for prizes. A number of soccer scouts and coaches were on ground to indentify the best talents for promotion to more competitive teams and leagues.
A huge crowd withered storm and heat on both days to witness the events. An estimated 1000 spectators were there to cheer their teams. The participating teams each donning a particular set of uniforms made a colourful display of spectacular sportsmanship.
The tournament was kicked off with a prayer and screening of players for eligibility. The matches started off shortly until dusk on both the days of the event.
Matches were officiated by senior players from the organisation's Kampala School of Excellence Football Club who had recently undergone a football workshop.
The event was graced by the Director of Kampala School of Excellence Ministries also the Head of Youth Football in Rubaga Division Mr. Daniel Kisseka Ntale. Mr. Ntale a former national football team player encouraged the players to focus on their academic engagements while at the same time developing their talents.
The best teams and players were awarded with medals, balls, football magazines, soccer equipment and scholarstic materials.
Asked why they chose scholarstic materials, KSEM Administrator Moses Kalanzi said the choice for books and other scholarstic material was aimed at helping those players who were preparing for the upcoming school term in relation to the orgnisation's goals of facilitating education through sports.
