Thank you Jill, Jo and Hayley for the love.

KSEM CHILDREN IN STREET EVANGELISM DRIVE

Sunday 10th April marked a significant day for the KSEM family as the children were ushered into a new meaning of life. Ten members of the Children's Home took to the streets to share their love and the message of the gospel to vulnearble children on the streets of Kampala.

The team led by the Home's warden and caretaker Geofrey Ssemakula preached to the children and shared goodies with them. The boys bought cakes, buscuits ad icecream for the street children and talked to them sharing their testimonies and encouraging them.

Among the members who shared with the children were two former street children9but now members of the children's Home) Joseph Otundiri who spent six months on the streets and Eria Kalule who also spent six months on the streets of both Jinja and Kampala towns. This was a significant step as frmer street children shared with children challenged by street life.

The KSEM family has decided to make this a routine program urging its child members to share the love with other children challenged by social issues.

Not Ashamed Visit KSEM Home

KSEM Children home recently recieved guests from the Not Ashamed Musical group, the Michigan-based Gospel band was in the country for a series of Concerts and cahrity activities.

Kampala School fo Excellence Ministries Children's Home was blessed to host the Ten-member group to our facility in Rubaga. Jodana Sports Management, a sports management and marketing firm also sponsored the event with sports equipment to the participants.

The program will be running in different districts of Uganda until December 2011

KSE JUNIORS DRAW PROLINE SOCCER ACADEMY

Kampala School of Excellence Juniors on Saturday 22 January were forced into a 1-1 draw with one of the country's top soccer academy Proline Soccer Academy at Lugogo Sports Complex. The boys who played an early morning game with their hosts exhibited a spectacular display of talent and composure against the nation's best talents.

An Ivan Makula early goal was all the Excellence boys could afford in a highly-billed friendly match. This is the first time the Excellence lads were having a face-off with Proline soccer academy which has links with England defender Rio Ferdinand.

Undoubtedly one of the best soccer academies in Uganda, Proline soccer academy is owned and managed by Mujib Kasule a former footballer-turned soccer administrator. The later is also a friend to Excellence Ministries Director and founder Daniel Kisseka Ntale also a former national team player.

Both sides exhibited rare talents at a match watched by over 100 fans. Kampala School of Excellence Juniors are the academy side of Kampala School of Excellence Football Club which is managed by Kampala School of Excellence Ministries a local Charity organisation which is involved with promoting talents.

Double triumph for Johnson

He is just like all ordinary 13 year-olds at a first-time approach, the sheepish smile and naughtiness combined, but Johnson is much more than that. Johnson is a prefect at school meaning he has leadership responsibilities yet when the boys sought to elect a person in charge of looking after the games and sports equipment at the orphanage he was the first to be nominated.

He is a darling of many at school not so much for his academic abilities but for his friendliness and a hardworking character. Yet despite all these he still tops his class at the Crane Education center, a thing he has done for the last one and a half years since he joined the school.

His teachers were all praises for him upon learning that he had scored a first grade in his Primary leaving examinations. According to his class teacher, although they were happy that he had scored a first grade, they were not surprised adding that Johnson has always been hardworking and thus deserved this.

Johnson who also doubles as the school's football captain and sports prefect was all smiles when the news of his performance was brought to him. " God has been good to me, he helped me perform well, i think i deserved it" was all he could say.

This comes barely a month after Johnson was honored with the region's highest award for his age category in soccer. He was both the the top scorer and best player at the regional youth soccer championships for Kampala held at Nkumba a fortnight ago. His success in these endeavors brings to light the support he has received in both his education and talent development.

Johnson is able to go to school thanks to the support accorded to the Home by the Daniel's Promise Charity founded by Denise Gwatkin in 2008. He is supported for his education and general welfare by the Charity which supports the Kampala School of Excellence Ministries Children's Home.

A first grade for Johnson

Wild cheers engulfed the Home as the results of the 2010 Primary Leaving Examinations were announced. 4 boys of the 32 at the Home sat for their examinations in November and they were among the thousands whose results were released yesterday.

Johnson Musinguzi who tops his class at the Crane Educational Center scored eleven aggregates making a first grade, Jimmy Ssebunnya scored 18 aggregates in second grade, Experito Kimbugwe scored 25 aggregates while Joseph Katta scored 27 aggregates both in third grade. None of the boys failed the exams which are transitional from Primary school(which lasts for seven years) to secondary school.

The four boys will join Abdu Ssekitto, Abdu Ssebunnya, Kenny Sserunjogi and Sebuwuufu Manfred who are already in Secondary school. Many thanks to the boys sponsors Claire Wain, Jane Hannon, Jenny Gray and Tim Sunnucks for supporting the boys.

A fridge for the boys

Denise Gwatkin's recent trip to Uganda left a big mark on the lives of the children at the Orphanage. The visit though brief was remarkable for different things the charity was able to do for the boys. Apart from her daily tennis routines at the home, Denise took out the boys to Aero beach Entebbe for a fun day.

The journey to the beach was without inconveniences as the bus was stopped by the Traffic police for an offense we are yet to know. Nevertheless the boys had a nice time at the beach which is found on lake Victoria, the largest natural lake on the continent.

The charity also procured a refrigerator for the Home. The boys will have the pleasure of drinking boiled water which is then cooled. The fridge will also keep vegetables and other food stuff fresh. This means that the Home will be able to buy foodstuff in bulk to be kept cold for a longer period.

Denise also bought curtains for the Home. The new Home is a storied Bungalow with many windows. There was a lot of light coming in from the outside both during the day and in the night meaning also that the boys had no privacy from the neighbors.

Many thanks to Daniel's Promise charity for the support to the Home

A new screen for the Children's Home

Excitement is high at the Children's home with the recent donation of a 42 inch flat screen Televsion set. The TV which was supposed to be the children's Christmas present arrived a bit late but without the excitement of having a new and larger set.

The TV which was donated by the Charity Daniel's Promise which supports the Home, has been fully installed. Wild cheers filled the living room when the set was switched on for the first time. Many could not wait to touch the wide screen and the boys scrambled for seats near the huge set.

With a number of cartoon DVDs and movies which Denise came along with on her trip recently, the boys are kept busy all day. According to Denise Gwatkin's ,Daniel's Promise Charity founder, the charity is committing itself to paying Digital Satelite TV subscriptions for the bosy to watch their favourite programs.

Since many boys have been sneaking out of the home to go to watch premier league games at different locations for a price, the Charity is going an extra mile to cover this. Many thanks to all our sponsors who have committed to sponsoring the DSTV . Many thanks to Rosemary Bailey, Razena Shaw, Jane Hannon and the rest for this kind gesture.

Daniels Promise Trustee Visit Children's Home

We are happy to report about Denise Gwatkin's recent trip to Uganda. Denise was here on her annual visit to the Charity she helps to support. Daniel's Promise Charity supports the Kampala School of Excellence Ministries Children's Home. The charity has been extending education, feeding and shelter support for 32 boys at the Children's home in Rubaga since late 2008.

Denise was in the country between January 1st until January 11 2011 through which she was engaged in a number of activities. Denise taught the children tennis on all days during her trip and she was amazed by their adaptability to the game. Denise is a tennis coach who played for the England Tennis team during her career.

In 2008 inspired by a vision from God, Denise came to Uganda and got in touch with Daniel Ntale a retired football player who had given up football to help children from vulnerable backgrounds with soccer skills. Subsequently Denise founded the Charity Daniels Promise in the UK to fundraise support for the Kampala School of Excellence Ministries Children's Home.

KSEM GHANA-BASED DUO DOING WELL

News coming from Accra are that the sensational duo of Mohamed Kanakulya and Cephas Persie Matsiko are doing quite well with top second division side Highlanders Football Club.
In a recent email to the KSE FC president,HighlandersPresident George Otent Arthur revealed that the pair have adapted well to the Ghananian have secured first team places.

The two players are the second batch of KSE FC players to feature in Ghana following in the footsteps of Henry Kasirye and Yasin Muyimba who have since joined the Rwanda Premier League for Mukura FC.

Kanakulya a Uganda U-17 International has since shifted from the Defence to a more relaxed position which matches his style of play. Mrs Gradon arrived in the country on 11th August and was flanked by her son Andy Gradon and Helen Amy Crawford a christian youth worker.
The three had a good time with the children playing games with them, engaging them in spiritually motivating activities and taking the boys out to the beach. Andy took off time to display some basic football skills to the boys. Andy who plays football and Tennis in England also has an FA coaching certificate.

The most interesting moment was when the boys were taken out to the beach for a swim and fun in the sand. The crew were treated to a number of games including beach soccer, volleyball, rounders among others.
We would like to thank Jill Gradon, Hellen and Andy for your time with the boys and wish you a nice return home.
Send our regards to a George and his family and to Denise Gwatkin for the support extended to the Ministry.

School of Excellence wins YMCA CUP

The School of Excellence on Saturday displayed yet another of its excellent ventures by winning the prestigious YMCA CUP. While many parents in Uganda discourage their children from sports in fear of their children failing to perfom academically, a 12 year old boy at a Kampala Orphanage thinks otherwise.
Johnson Musinguzi's tale as a hopeless boy from an impoverished family whose only redeeming force was soccer is touching. Born in a family of five Johnson's siblings dropped out of school as their father could no longer afford to raise their school dues. Consequently he relocated the family to the village.
It was Johnson's extra-ordinary football talents that saved him from joining his siblings in the village, he was taken under the care of a football coach who persuaded his father not to relocate him to the village arguing that his talents would best be developed in the city center where resources were available and to this he has never regretted.

The little boys was later through acquaintances brought to the Kampala School of Excellence Children's Home where the offer of shelter and an education seemed a lifetime opportunity. Johnson's talents were soon identified and he was selected on the School's Junior soccer team. However one thing remained unclear to him, how would he manage both soccer and class. He found many of his colleagues not so much interested in making academics a priority, this he had realised when his academic progress dwindled drastically.

While he loved the sport and being part of a school group, Johnson appealed to his carers at Kampala School of Excellence Ministries Children's Home to relocate him to another school as to get more concetration in academics. The results were unbelievable, despite having to contend with the challenges of adapting to a new school environment, under a different set-up Johnson's progress report for the First term at the Crane Educational Center were motivation.
According to his class teacher, Johnson only needed a little supervision to make the best grades and soon he was at the top of his class. Johnson is in his final year in primary school and has topped his class twice. His teachers hold confidence in him and believe that he will score a first grade in the Prmary Leaving Exams due in November 2010. He is quick to adapt to new situations and is flexible with challenges.

Beside class Johnson has established himself as an outstanding football player, gifted with a swift left foot, he has scored a number of times for his school football team for which he is their captain. Johnson recently scored a Hatrick in the School's league for his school. He is also a first team player in the Kampala school of Excellence Juniors soccer team.

Besides football johnson participates in athletics and Volleyball. He represented his school in the National school athletics Championships at Kyambogo early this year and will be participating in the National Primary school's volleyball tourney soon.

Meet Martin Sewakiryanga,a teenager with many dreams.

They say, a journey of a thousand miles starts with a few steps and this could be true of a teenager at the Kampala School of Excellence Children's Home. Martin Ssewakiryanga who makes 14 this year has established himself as an outstanding character amongst the members of this institution.

He may not be quite as intelligent as Johnson Musinguzi who tops his class at Crane Education Center but definitely Martin is destined to prosper with his other interests.

Martin is among the members of the orphanage Art and Crafts group, a passion he shares with Noah Ssenkumba who is his best friend. The two have made beautiful craft and Art materials and have distinguished themselves as ambitious young artists.

But these are not enough for the boy who came from a troubled background with an abusive family, he has a passion for agriculture and animal rearing. Despite the fact that the children's home is located within an enclosure with limited space, Martin dream of having a farm has not been shattered. He has undertaken growing of different food items wherever possible and these have included potatoes, beans, maize corn and Cassava.

Martin is also the owner of three hens which he has reared for the last three months. He bought the chicks from his little savings and is destinedto reap "big" from his sweat.

" I will sell each hen at 10,000 Ug Shs, i will do this during the festive season when the demand is high" says Martin. Martin's are broilers which look for their own fod, he doesn't have to collect food for them. He has build an enclosure just below the water tower where he keeps them away from cats and dogs in the area.

Besides Art and agriculture and rearing birds, Martin plays football for the Kampala School of Excellence Junior team. The left footed player is also a starter on his school's junior and senior teams and has represented the school in both football and athletics.

Martin attributes his character to the ambition to succeed in life made possible by hope he has had since he was admitted at the children's home two years ago.

''Maybe i would be a different person, i was not at the home, i have got a lot of encouragement and guidance which helps me in my activities"

According to the KSEM Director Daniel Ntale, children like Martin need to be assisted in their interests. "He may not be doing well in class but we identify a talent or capability which we build upon to enable him have a brighter future"

And that is the essence of identification and talent development.

Pass It on Soccer Donates to Kampala School of Excellence Ministries

A US-based international football charity has donated soccer balls and cleats to Kampala School of Excellence Ministries. The event was planned to include a fundraising dinner, a scheduled visit to the children’s Home, a football match with a select Uganda national team and a soccer clinic for children and youths. World Ventures Limited a regional Tours and travel company and Orange telecom Uganda a telecom giant funded the organisation of the event. A number of famous ex-African football players were invited to grace the events. These included Africa’s greatest playmaker Cyril Mackanaky Cameroon’s alltime top goal scorer Patrick Mboma, 1990 world cup hero Omam Biyik, his equally succesful brother Omam Biyik, 1990 and 1994 Cameroon world cup hero Maboang Kessack, Belgium-based former Rwanda National team captain Olivier Karekyezi, Kenya’s Henry Mutego, Thomas Opio and Tony Luanga.

While the organisation was not able to raise funds due to a poor turn up at the events, with the participation of the invited African legends, KSEM registered a number of successes especially regarding exposure of the organisation’s ativities. The Minister of Security who was the guest of honour at the fundraising dinner acknowlegded the work being done by KSEM together with its partners in shaping the future of Uganda’s children. Also in attendance was Uganda’s Sports Minister who commended the organisation for their contribution to the developmnt of sports in the country.
The organisation has enjoyed a wide coverage of its activities in the national media since then. With this in view the organisation is also exploring ways of how to work with a number of individuals and organisations who have expressed interest in extending a helping hand.

The football stars visited the children’s home were they shared motivational expereinces with the children. They signed autographs and took pictures with the excited children and promised to extend a helping hand in future when called upon.

More School of Excellence Players called to National team

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 250px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_iJBIqLUXH-M/S7mmxy2Ay8I/AAAAAAAAAEA/m_7PCan65rQ/s320/yasin+and+boy.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5456575797928184770" />
A total of four members of Kampala School of Excellence Football team have been called to the national U-17 and U-20 teams in preparations for major tournaments. The Gala was targeted to coincide with the start of the new school term. Over 500 children and youths participated in this event with a total of 89 goals scored.

Over 30 teams participated in the tournament which drew teams from around Kampala City area. The 11-aside games were played on a divided field for two days. The participants were of two categories ie the Under 13 and the Under 17.

Despite heavy rains that sogged the dusty field on the first day of the tournament, there was alot of excitement as players from different teams competed for prizes. A number of soccer scouts and coaches were on ground to indentify the best talents for promotion to more competitive teams and leagues.

A huge crowd withered storm and heat on both days to witness the events. An estimated 1000 spectators were there to cheer their teams. The participating teams each donning a particular set of uniforms made a colourful display of spectacular sportsmanship.

The tournament was kicked off with a prayer and screening of players for eligibility. The matches started off shortly until dusk on both the days of the event.

Matches were officiated by senior players from the organisation's Kampala School of Excellence Football Club who had recently undergone a football workshop.

The event was graced by the Director of Kampala School of Excellence Ministries also the Head of Youth Football in Rubaga Division Mr. Daniel Kisseka Ntale. Mr. Ntale a former national football team player encouraged the players to focus on their academic engagements while at the same time developing their talents.

The best teams and players were awarded with medals, balls, football magazines, soccer equipment and scholarstic materials.

Asked why they chose scholarstic materials, KSEM Administrator Moses Kalanzi said the choice for books and other scholarstic material was aimed at helping those players who were preparing for the upcoming school term in relation to the orgnisation's goals of facilitating education through sports.
